On Thursday evening Steven and I were getting ready to watch some TV (looking forward to our weekly "Office" date!) As we were talking my water broke! While I dealt with that Steven called the doctor and she said to head to the hospital! So we changed clothes, packed last minute items in the bag, cleaned up around the house, and headed to the hospital!

We got checked in around 9pm. I still hadn't felt any contractions, but the monitors showed they were present. We were told that we'd wait it out and see if contractions increased on their own and if not, they'd speed up the process for me with some Pitocin. It was turning into a rather long night! So at 1:15 a.m., in went the I.V. of Pitocin and at 2:15 a.m. on came the major contractions! I dealt with them for about an hour and then got an epidural....ahhh! At 4:30 a.m. I had dialated to 5cm and by 5:00 a.m. I was at 10cm and ready to go! So the pushing started at 5:35 a.m. and Madelyn was born at 6:22 a.m.! (Yes, she's a Halloween baby...just like her Uncle Drew!)

One To Go!

Steven is a huge NASCAR fan! One thing he loves to see is the man up in the tower at the start/finish line giving the drivers the "one (lap) to go" before the race goes green. The man holds up his index finger on one hand and waves the drivers on with the flag in the other. (Steven imitates this around the house often!) So, the title of this post is for Steven!

Yes, we have one week to go until our due date! Nine months has seemed like a long time and now all of a sudden within a week or so we'll have a baby! We went to the doctor today for my 39 week visit. As usual, my weight and blood pressure was good and the baby's heartbeat was strong. I still don't think I've had any contractions (they say "you'll know!") but things have been feeling a little bit different in the tummy area. When the doctor went to do the exam, the first thing she said was "Oh, the baby's head is nice and low." Steven and I were wide eyed and he said, "You mean, it's already where you can feel it?!" She said that Baby's head has descended about half way into the pelvis, which is a good thing. The doctor also reported that my cervix is about 75% effaced, but she couldn't tell if there was any dialation (that's because she couldn't reach far enough...talk about uncomfortable!) Anyway, she said we seem to be on track! We have an appointment scheduled for our due date, Thursday, November 6, should we not have a baby before then!

Please be praying for us, especially over the next week. We pray that the baby and I will continue to be healthy and that we'll have a safe delivery whenever that may be! We'll be sure to keep you updated! :)

38 weeks

Today we come to the 38 week mark and that leaves us about two more to go!

We went to the doctor yesterday for my weekly visit and all was well. She is still head down (and again I emphasize way down...my poor bladder!) and her heart beat was strong and really fast (as usual!) As for me, weight and blood pressure were good and I'm feeling pretty good too. After an exam, the doctor said I was perhaps 50% effaced and no dialation- she said maybe a half centimeter would be being generous! Steven and I didn't expect any real progress, so her report was no surprise. We'll head back next Wednesday for the 39 week appointment to see what's changed!

(I say this now because I have nothing to compare it to...)
This pregnancy has been easy and such a joy! In the beginning I felt yucky of course, but never once got sick! It took a little while for me to show, so fortunately I was able to wear regular clothes for quite a long time. There weren't really crazy food issues (except for that McDonald's cheeseburger phase and avoiding BBQ sauce and chicken breasts.) Being active while pregnant has been relatively easy too! I started out trying to maintain exercise, but there did come a point were it was a little uncomfortable with a big old belly. And just last weekend Steven and I were out planting flowers and raking the yard! My only real complaint has been bedtime issues- not staying comfortable and frequent trips to the potty.

I say all of this to share how blessed I've been these last nine months. Steven and I have prayed daily that I will continue to have a healthy pregnancy and that our baby will develop into a healthy baby girl! God has truly been with us during our pregnancy and has answered our prayers with blessings beyond our imagination! He is so good!!
