Steven is a huge NASCAR fan! One thing he loves to see is the man up in the tower at the start/finish line giving the drivers the "one (lap) to go" before the race goes green. The man holds up his index finger on one hand and waves the drivers on with the flag in the other. (Steven imitates this around the house often!) So, the title of this post is for Steven!
Yes, we have one week to go until our due date! Nine months has seemed like a long time and now all of a sudden within a week or so we'll have a baby! We went to the doctor today for my 39 week visit. As usual, my weight and blood pressure was good and the baby's heartbeat was strong. I still don't think I've had any contractions (they say "you'll know!") but things have been feeling a little bit different in the tummy area. When the doctor went to do the exam, the first thing she said was "Oh, the baby's head is nice and low." Steven and I were wide eyed and he said, "You mean, it's already where you can feel it?!" She said that Baby's head has descended about half way into the pelvis, which is a good thing. The doctor also reported that my cervix is about 75% effaced, but she couldn't tell if there was any dialation (that's because she couldn't reach far enough...talk about uncomfortable!) Anyway, she said we seem to be on track! We have an appointment scheduled for our due date, Thursday, November 6, should we not have a baby before then!
Please be praying for us, especially over the next week. We pray that the baby and I will continue to be healthy and that we'll have a safe delivery whenever that may be! We'll be sure to keep you updated! :)

38 weeks
Today we come to the 38 week mark and that leaves us about two more to go!
We went to the doctor yesterday for my weekly visit and all was well. She is still head down (and again I emphasize way down...my poor bladder!) and her heart beat was strong and really fast (as usual!) As for me, weight and blood pressure were good and I'm feeling pretty good too. After an exam, the doctor said I was perhaps 50% effaced and no dialation- she said maybe a half centimeter would be being generous! Steven and I didn't expect any real progress, so her report was no surprise. We'll head back next Wednesday for the 39 week appointment to see what's changed!
(I say this now because I have nothing to compare it to...)
This pregnancy has been easy and such a joy! In the beginning I felt yucky of course, but never once got sick! It took a little while for me to show, so fortunately I was able to wear regular clothes for quite a long time. There weren't really crazy food issues (except for that McDonald's cheeseburger phase and avoiding BBQ sauce and chicken breasts.) Being active while pregnant has been relatively easy too! I started out trying to maintain exercise, but there did come a point were it was a little uncomfortable with a big old belly. And just last weekend Steven and I were out planting flowers and raking the yard! My only real complaint has been bedtime issues- not staying comfortable and frequent trips to the potty.
I say all of this to share how blessed I've been these last nine months. Steven and I have prayed daily that I will continue to have a healthy pregnancy and that our baby will develop into a healthy baby girl! God has truly been with us during our pregnancy and has answered our prayers with blessings beyond our imagination! He is so good!!

Getting Ready
Well, about three weeks to go until Baby Girl Hyde joins the family! Yes, I said three! I'm still trying to process that! So what have we been up to? Getting ready for her of course!
The other day I gathered up all of the baby clothes, linens, and blankets and did some laundry. How fun! Sitting on the couch folding baby clothes was surreal because I just couldn't make the connection with whose clothes they were! Then into drawers it all went, so at least she'll have clean laundry! I still have fun little crafty projects I want to do for her room; perhaps later this week I'll get around to that. But as far as the basics- cradle and crib- check! changing table with diapers and wipes- check! clean clothes and blankets- check! Now, I still haven't packed the hospital bag or diaper bag...again, I'll get around to it! My days consist of eating, watching Baby Story and Bringing Home Baby on TLC, eating, running errands, eating, going to doctor's appointments, eating, and doing some things from the "to do" list. (Did I mention eating?)
So what has Steven been up to? For many weeks he was studying for a pharmacy board exam. But now that it's over, I'm ready to put him to work! We'll be attempting to install the car seat this weekend and put some baby gear items together. That should be fun!
He and I attended a Labor and Delivery class at the hospital last week. All I know is that I was not ready for the reality of the video we saw! I mean, there came a point where he and I had to look away...eww! I'll spare the details but I definitely wasn't ready for what I saw! Something about thinking that I was going to do that just didn't sit well with me. But, I got over it and am ready for her to be here (however that happens!)
On Monday of this week I went to the doctor for my 36/37 week appointment (it fell in between.) My weight and blood pressure was good and I'm feeling good! Because my belly measured a little small according to the magic tape measure, we did an ultrasound to check baby's weight. She's doing wonderfully! The tech said that her heart looked really good and she was doing breathing exercises with her lungs which is great. The various measurements taken put her at about 6lbs. 14oz. that day and I was told she could gain about another pound or pound and a half. So we could have an 8lb.+ baby! She is already head down, way down as a matter of fact! The tech had a hard time getting head measurements! I haven't had any contractions, and the doctor said I haven't dialated any, so that's good at this point. Steven and I will go back next week for the 38 week appointment and see if there are any changes!

Lil' Pumpkin
Steven and I are so fortunate to be surrounded with wonderful friends from our Adult Bible Fellowship class at Highview Baptist Church. On Sunday, October 5 the sweet women of the class and I gathered together for a baby shower to celebrate Baby Hyde. They were so generous in showering our little one with gifts!
Being that it's fall, Stephanie (a.k.a. "Mrs. Southern Living"), decorated with pumpkins! (I feel like I have one in my belly!)
